Raw Animal Food Stored Over Ready-To-Eat Food is Never Good

It might be safe to say that the kitchen staff at Alpharetta’s Spice Brick Oven Kitchen was having an off day Monday when an inspector with the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness stopped by for a spot check.

The popular restaurant near North Point Mall had aced its previous four inspections dating back to April 2012, scoring a 99, 98, 98, and 96 respectively.

But Monday was different for the pizza and tapas establishment located at 10800 Haynes Bridge Road. By the time the inspection was over, Spice Brick Oven Kitchen had been saddled with an unsatisfactory score of 65, meaning it will be re-inspected within 10 days.

Among the observations made by the inspector Monday:

• Observed improper horizontal separation of raw animal foods and ready-to-eat foods.
• Observed improper vertical separation of raw animal foods and ready-to-eat foods.
• Observed raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food.  
• Observed frozen potentially hazardous food slacking at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Prepared food not marked with date of preparation or date for disposal.
• Observed chemicals stored next to food and on food contact surfaces.  
• Establishment operating without a current food service permit.
