Water Line Project To Close Lanes on Main Street

Starting on Monday, crews with Fulton County will close lanes on Main Street in Alpharetta as part of its water line installation project.

Plans to install a 30-inch water line by the Fulton County Department of Water Resources will impact traffic on a major Alpharetta thoroughfare.

The agency will begin the installation project on S.R. 9/Main Street on Monday, March 24, and the work is expected to last three weeks.

The project is also slated to require occasional lane closures on Main Street near its intersection with Academy Street/Milton Avenue.

All work on the project will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Motorist should expect heavy congestion during the construction period, and are advised to avoid the intersection, if possible.

Westside Parkway offers the best alternative for motorists, the city of Alpharetta said in a news release. While Roswell/Canton Street is another option, "the road is not designed for heavy traffic and will become quickly congested," the city added added.

The city said Fulton crews must "open cut" a trench across Main Street to do the project, which is part of a major water line expansion project being done in phases.
