Tolls Funding Mansell Triple Turn Lane to North Point Parkway

The state agency in charge of GA 400's tolls approved a grant to reduce traffic congestion.

Some of those toll dollars paid by Alpharetta area motorists are coming home through a grant to pay for building a triple left turn lane from Mansell Road onto northbound North Point Parkway.

The North Fulton Community Improvement District CID funded the initial design and traffic models for the improvements. The CID announced today that last week, the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA), chaired by Gov. Nathan Deal, approved a $389,000 grant to cover construction costs. The grant is part of $1.3 million in funding approved by SRTA to support transportation improvement projects for North and South Fulton CIDs.

The lane extension will replace the existing double-left-turn lane on Mansell Road eastbound. The intent is to reduce daily traffic bottlenecks on GA 400.

“We are certainly excited about this initial investment from SRTA,” said Brandon Beach, state Transportation Board member and executive director of the North Fulton CID. “We see this as a long-term partnership.

Beach said the CID has worked for years to identify, design and move projects forward, while leveraging its local funds to get funds from other entities.

"SRTA is an ideal partner for us, using tolls raised by GA 400 commuters to complete projects that directly benefit those same commuters," Beach said.
