Financial Fraud, Stolen Identities a Recurring Problem in Alpharetta

The following arrest information was supplied by the Alpharetta police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A suspect caught by employees allegedly trying to use a stolen credit card was arrested by Alpharetta police after a car chase and a wreck.

When a suspect tried to make a fraudulent purchase at Dillard’s in North Point Mall on Nov. 21, an officer was called to the scene. Before arriving the officer was notified that the suspect had already left in a tan Dodge Charger.

Another officer patrolling the area of Mansell Road and GA 400 spotted the vehicle, but when he tried to make a traffic stop, the Dodge Charger led him on a pursuit which ended with a wreck involving another vehicle. Two suspects proceeded to flee on foot and one was caught not far from the accident scene.

A representative with the Dillard Loss Prevention Program told police that one of the suspects had used a stolen American Express card to purchase two pair of jeans. Police were given a security video in which the suspect was seen making the purchase as well as a copy of the receipt.

The suspect caught at the accident scene matched the description of the man in the video. A Dillard’s bag containing two pairs of jeans and a matching receipt to the one that was given by the store’s representative was also found.

Several other bags of merchandise from several different stores were also found in the vehicle. Items included gift cards, phones and iPods. All were placed into evidence.

The suspect declined to give a statement and was brought to the police department. Terrane L. Elmore was charged with financial transaction card fraud and felony fleeing and eluding. He was released on $11,000 bond.

Home Health Care Worker Suspected of Theft, Fraud

In a separate incident, an Alpharetta resident contacted police with a suspicion of theft from a home health-care worker. The victim had hired a company to provided in-home nursing care for his mother each afternoon and evening.

After one such visit the victim noticed a necklace missing from his bedroom. After a few weeks, he also noticed multiple unauthorized transactions on his credit card totalling around $400.

The victim looked through his records and realized that on the days that the credit card was used he did not receive a summary sheet from his mother's in-care nurse.

When the victim contacted the health-care service he was informed that the nurse in question had quit abruptly. A police report has been filed.
