Running for Alpharetta City Council Will Cost $450

But that amount is just the qualifying fee that is scheduled to be set at a meeting tonight and doesn't include campaign costs.

If you were considering making a run for Alpharetta City Council, you have a little more than two months to make up your mind. The current City Council has a resolution on tonight's meeting agenda to set the qualifying and an election date for three of those seats.

Posts 1, 2 and 3 are up for election in November. Those seats are held by Donald Mitchell, Mike Kennedy and Chris Owens. Voters will pick someone to fill the full, four-year terms.

Mitchell was elected in 2011 to fill the unexpired term of Doug DeRito, who had resigned from City Council to run for mayor. Kennedy and Owens are finishing full terms after the election in 2009. Winners of the three council seats will take office after the end of the current terms on Dec. 31.

Alpharetta will be paying $111,257.80 to Fulton County to run this election, including a week of early voting at City Hall.
