Rep. Price Responds to 'No-Show' Accusation on Patch Blog

The Congressman says he appreciates input from his constituents.

Rep. Tom Price is responding to accusations that he stood up a group of local constituents who wanted to meet with him on Thursday.

In a blog on Patch, Tom Graham publicized his frustrations with the lack of a planned meeting about Price's "opposition to comprehensive background checks on gun purchases." But, Price's staff say the allegations "are completely without merit."

According to the Congressman's office, they were only made aware that members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns would be dropping off petitions after hearing about a press release the organization had distributed on Wednesday evening.

"We had no prior notice or any request for a meeting on Thursday morning and unfortunately Congressman Price had a prior engagement," Price's Communications Director Ryan Murphy told Patch.

Still, the Congressman says he wants to work out the issue of gun control and that he's willing to meet with anyone who wants to do the same. He issued the following statement to Patch regarding the issue:

"We always appreciate input from our constituents on any issue of concern. All Americans have a goal of our communities being safe places to live, learn, work and play. Regrettably, the current administration has a remarkably poor record of enforcing gun control laws currently in place. In addition, a proper diagnosis of the source of gun violence in our nation must include a robust analysis of our woefully inadequate mental health system and the contributors to the sad erosion of moral behavior in our society. We look forward to working with all who are interested in positive solutions that actually solve the problem.”
