Qualifying Starts Next Week for Milton, Alpharetta Races

The race to fill expiring terms of mayor and city council races will formally kick off next week.

Qualifying for races in Milton and Alpharetta will begin next week, but you better be prepared to cough over some cash if you want to run for political office.

Qualifying for Alpharetta City Council Posts 1, 2 and 3 will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday Aug. 26 through Wed. Aug. 28. The fee is $450, which is 3 percent of the total gross salary made by each council member in the preceding year.

In Milton, qualifying for the office of mayor and the District 1/Post 1, District 2/Post 1 and District 3/Post 1 seats will also kick off Monday. Residents can qualify Monday Aug. 26 through Friday Aug. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fees in Milton to quality for mayor is $690 and is $390 for city council seats.

Qualifying will take place in both cities at the city clerk's offices at their respective city halls. Milton City Hall is located at 13000 Deerfield Parkway, Suite 107 A/B while Alpharetta City Hall's address is 2 South Main Street. 

The deadline for residents to register for the city election is Monday Oct. 7. 

City voters will cast their ballots on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 5 at their designated precincts.
