Milton Updates SWAT, Animal Control Agreements

With a relatively small population, Milton contracts with other governments to provide more services.

Milton City Council voted at Monday night's meeting to approve changes to an agreement between the city and Alpharetta for SWAT services.

The changes are simple modifications in language and only deal with which person at the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is deemed "SWAT Commander," and will have no impact on overall operations of the joint team.

Milton is too small to fully equip its own SWAT team. So the city entered into an agreement with Alpharetta in 2009 for a joint SWAT team. The Alpharetta SWAT team responds to incidents in Milton at the request of the city.

Council also approved an intergovernmental agreement for the provision of animal control services between Fulton County and the City of Milton.

The agreement requires Fulton County to respond to citizens' calls for animal control services 24 hours a day within the city limits. This includes rabies control services and animal cruelty investigations.

The city must pay the county $21,892 annually based on its population and the number of calls in previous years.

The term of this agreement is for two years and will terminate on June 30, 2013.
