Milton Resident Ask City Council to Educate Drivers About Bicyclists

Silva wants cyclists to be safe on city streets.

Milton resident Patti Silva kicked off Monday night's city hall meeting with a plea to the council regarding bike safety. In Silva’s opinion Milton is not a very bike friendly community but she would like to see that change.

“My husband rides a bike and he can’t really ride in Milton that much,” says Silva.

She points out that while her husband goes elsewhere when riding, there are plenty who do bike on the roads of Milton.

“I’m wondering if you can educate the public and bicyclists and our residents basically about what the rules of the road are? What is considerate and how to take care of one another,” Silva said.

Silva recognizes that the bicycles are here to stay and would like to see the public safety department organize an outreach to educate the community.

“I’m really concerned because someone was killed a couple of days ago in the city of Roswell,” continues Silva.

She’s referring to 52-year-old cyclist, Bryan Morgan who was struck from behind by a motorist and killed July 4 on Roswell Road near Hightower Trail.

“I’m just hoping that there’s a way that the citizens of the community, the staff, all of you council can embrace this idea and lets do it sooner rather than later before somebody gets killed on the roads of Milton,” concluded Silva.
