Milton Puts Osama Bin Laden, Tornadoes On Agenda

City Council members call attention to issues outside of town as they make Public Services proclamation.

Milton City Councilman Alan Tart said Osama bin Laden's death and the toll of tornadoes in the region helped bring forward the importance of the night's Public Services proclamation at Monday night's council meeting.

“The events of the last 24 hours offer a nice backdrop to this proclamation,” said Tart.

“As you all know it was public servants, elected officials, appointed officials but more importantly our men and women in uniform and the intelligence community that carried out an operation to kill Osama Bin Laden," he said.

Tart said he thought he could speak for all of City Coucnil in congratulating not only current leaders, but past leaders for remaining steadfast in the operation.

With that said, Councilman Tart recognized the week of  May 1-7 2012 as Public Service recognition week in the city of Milton.

Tart praised elected officials, city staff and citizen volunteers for their hard work in the city of Milton.

“All of you are to be commended for your work in moving this city forward and because of you we have achieved much success in the few years that we’ve been a city. So it’s my honor to be able to not only present but share in this proclamation with you,” said Tart.

Before the meeting ended, Mayor Joe Lockwood reminded both the City Council and residents in attendance to remember the victims who were recently hit by devastating storms that swept through the south, killing more that 340 individuals.

While assistance seems to be rushing in immediately following the disaster, Mayor Lockwood urged that residents think of how they help in the weeks and months to come.
