Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood joined the Windward Rotary Club for lunch Monday, and he described governing in the relatively young city, telling tales of how it has grown.

Lockwood shared tales of balancing the first budget, which at first pass was more than a half million dollars off. He also described how the city succesfully started offering services with the help of a private contractor, but transitioned later to hire its own staff and provide city services directly for Milton residents.

What the city's first mayor seemed most proud about was the sense of community that can be seen and felt at city events, such as the recent Milton Mayor's Run, which was held in cool, rainy weather.

Windward Rotary Club meets on most Mondays at the Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta on Windward Parkway.
