Milton City Council Plans to Repair 14 City Streets

The council's agenda tonight also includes a request to rezone property for townhomes.

Milton City Council has plans to patch and repair pavement on sections of 14 city streets at a cost of $510,170.

A contract with Blount Construction is expected to be approved during City Council's 6 p.m. meeting at today.

The City Council also has scheduled acceptance of a $100,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission to fund a Livable Communities Initiative (LCI) study for the Highway 9 Activity Corridor that extends from the county line with Forsyth south into Alpharetta. The city will match the grant, bringing its total to $125,000.

The ARC anticipates the study will help formulate strategies to develop walkable, mixed-use nodes along the corridor. The city just wants some professionals to take a loot at the corridor and make some recommendations for land use and zoning and design, said Michele McIntosh-Ross, planner for Milton, when the grant award was made in February.

The City Council also will decide whether to accept its Community Development staff's recommendation to deny a request to rezone some commercial property for townhomes, or to follow the Planning Commission's recommendation to approve the 43 townhomes.

Ashton Atlanta Residential wants the city to rezone 8.26 acres of property on Ga. 9 west of Sunfish Bend to allow 43 single-family detached homes at a density of 5.21 units per acre. The property is zoned Ccommunity business and would be changed to townhouse residential if the request is approved.
