Haynes Bridge Road Rerouting Costs Soar, But Alpharetta Won't Pay

The cost of moving Haynes Bridge Road to make way for the Alpharetta City Center just grew by more than $1.3 million, but the city won't be footing the bill for the extra work.

City Council is expected to approve an agreement tonight, Feb. 20, at its meeting at , with Fulton County to do the work. The city had a similar agreement with the county on water pipes under the roadway improvements constructed as part of the Kimball Bridge Road – Waters Road intersection project.

Fulton County is in the midst of a project to upgrade a water transmission line between the Jones Bridge/Buice Road intersection and Mayfield Road. A memorandum of understanding between the city and county is on the Ctiy Council agenda tonight, for the construction of a 30 inch water transmission main between Thompson Street and Academy Street.

Bidders on the Haynes Bridge Road realignment project had agreed to add the water line work to the project if they won the bid, for additional funding. This should mean the road isn't torn up after being rebuilt in its new location.

Fulton will fund the project.

During its meeting tonight, City Council also will consider applying for a $100,000 grant–a 50 percent share–to build a "splash pad" with fountains and water arches at the Wills Park pool. Another grant application seeks funds to outfit the city's HazMat response team.
