Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann didn't hold an open house just to show local residents her new office. She also wanted their blood.
The District 3 Commissioner said the area has a severe shortage of blood, so she arranged for an American Red Cross bloodmobile to be outside of her office for the 4-hour festival that accompanied her open house.
"I want to raise awareness of the critical shortage of blood this summer," she said.
Contact the Red Cross to help them, she said, because it's a critical need in the summer months.
Most Fulton County agencies were represented at the event, including the Fulton Tax Commissioner's office, Fulton County Registration and Elections and the Fulton County Youth Commission.
"I think it's very important to have a presence in the district so that I can meet constituents or other local elected officials on issues that are of concern to the county," Hausmann said at the open house. "To go downtown is inconvenient for a lot of people. And I need a place to conduct meetings, offer a space to others that might need a meeting location."
She said the office will make it easier for people in their interaction with Futon County. The conference room will be available for others, too.
The office will be open Tuesday through Friday. Linda Johnson, Hausmann's community outreach director, will be there full time.
