Fulton County Considers Grants for Milton, Alpharetta

Milton would use a grant to renovate Hopewell House, while Alpharetta plans to help low-income residents with home repairs.

Milton and Alpharetta are seeking grant funds from Fulton County to renovate the Hopewell House and to help low-income residents with home repairs.

The grants would originate with the Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department’s Office of Housing and Community Development. The department has opened the review and comment period for the Annual Action Plan for FY 2013 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) and Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) Programs, and both the 2012 and 2013 Draft Amendments. The review and comment period will be open until Sept. 14. There will be a final opportunity for public comment during the public comment period of the Sept. 19 meeting Board of Commissioners.

  • Milton – Hopewell House Senior Community Center renovation. $53,750.
  • Alpharetta – Owner-occupied housing. Provide home repairs for low-income residents. $53,750.
  • Fulton County Business Improvement Program –To provide financial assistance to small Fulton County businesses for expansion and development by creating or retaining jobs per one job per $35,000 of BILP funding invested. $127,938, $85,000 anticipated program income.
  • North Fulton Community Charities – Emergency assistance for residents of Alpharetta, Milton and Mountain Park. $10,000.
  • Ed Isakson-Family YMCA, Alpharetta – Structured activities for youth and seniors serving low and moderate income individuals. $20,000.

According to a news release from the department, Fulton County annually receives typically about $3 million under four formula programs from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD. These funds can be used to provide improvements and services that benefit all Fulton County citizens, with the primary intention being to improve the living conditions of low- and moderate-income people.
