Food Truck Alley Organizers Promise More Trucks Today

The success of last week's inaugural event created long lines for food.

Today's Food Truck Alley should manage to get downtown Alpharetta visitors their food much more quickly than last week, when waits of 45 minutes weren't that unusual.

Fork in the Road, the organizer of the event for the city, told officials they will look to have two or three more trucks this week.

"We are very happy that we were more successful than anticipated for the first installment," said Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard at Monday's City Council meeting.

The crowd was estimated between 600 and 700 people.

"At 5:15, we already had lines forming. When everything closed down at 9, we were still packed," he said.

Visitors to the event also said there weren't enough places to sit, which is another problem staff was looking to solve. Other minor tweaks will be better marking of restroom locations and putting more trash cans out in visible places.

The big oak tree in the Old Roswell Street parking lot served as playground equipment, with kids climbing up its many branches.

"At oine point there were more kids in that tree than there were leaves," Drinkard said.

Β Staff was consuting with Parks and Recreation Director Mike Perry to learn what playground standards are so they know how much cushioning mulch is needed underneath the tree.
