American Legion to Get Help Expanding Walk of Memories

Alpharetta City Council to hear a grant proposal Monday night to fund erecting a legenday U.S. fighter jet.

CORRECTION: Alpharetta City Council meets tonight, Feb. 18Β at 7:30 at City Hall.

Alpharetta's grants administrator will present a proposal to pay the costs for erecting a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star aircraft at the American Legion Post 201 Walk of Memories.

If approved, the Downtown Improvements grant will provide the American Legin with up to $8,000 to install the plane at its Wills Road location. The Legion has raised approximately $30,000 toward the project. However the cost of the engineering, design and construct the pedestal project is still needed.

If City Council approves the grant at its meeting tonight, the Shooting Star will join a helicopter and several other pieces of military hardware in the Walk of Memories.
