Alpharetta to OK $4 Million in Bonds to Fund Gwinnett Tech

The City Council included the construction grant in its proposal that helped the state pick Alpharetta for its North Fulton campus.

Alpharetta City Council is scheduled to approve a $4 million bond issue to give Gwinnett Tech a grant toward the construction of the college's Alpharetta campus.

The Alpharetta Development Authority first has to give its approval of the bond issue, but the council has to approve it before the money is raised. The Development Authority meets at 8:30 a.m. today at City Hall, with Gwinnett Tech Inventive Resolution on its agenda. City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. today, with the bond resolutin on its agenda.

Alpharetta made a commitment to Gwinnett Tech to attract the college to the city. Other North Fulton locations were considered, but ultimately the state Building Authority and the Technical College System of Georgia approved of a site on Old Milton Parkway near GA 400 and across from the future Avalon development.

The state approved the $6.1 million purchase of 25 acres of land on the south side of Old Milton Parkway.
