Alpharetta Residents, Business Owners Asked to Plan Main Street

Envision Main Street Alpharetta will gather ideas from residents and other stakeholder to design the road.

What should Alpharetta's Main Street look like? How should it function? The city will once again ask what stakeholders and other residents think in its Envision Main Street Alpharetta project.

Main Street, which is also known as GA 9, has changed little in recent years while the city has continued to grow.

"Main Street must be redesigned in a way that reflects and respects both its local and regional transportation roles," the city's Envision Main Street Alpharetta website says.

"Designing Main Street in a manner that meets the needs of the myriad groups that it serves: residents, business owners, local employees, shoppers, diners, visitors, and regional commuters, is no simple task.Β In fact, the effort can only be successful when representatives from all of those groups come together to unite their individual ideas and concerns into a single, shared community vision," the site continues.

The Envision Main Street Alpharetta sessions are designed for local residents and business owners to share their ideas and concerns. Those who live, work, play, shop, dine and travel along Main Street have a vested interest in how the corridor functions and looks like.

Professional consultants will assist in developing the vision for Main Street by answering questions and providing tools to help communicate and illustrate ideas.

In Alpharetta's new method of designing projects, first the city will gather information through the project. Then city planners and engineers will create a design for the future of Main Street that will be presented to the community on April 8.

The Focus Area:
Envision Main Street Alpharetta will focus on the section of State Route 9 between Old Milton Parkway and Windward Parkway.Β  Everyone with an interest in this area of Main Street is being asked to participate in the Envision Main Street Alpharetta sessions. A special effort is being made to engage owners of property fronting the corridor and residents of neighborhoods with entrances on Main Street.
