Alpharetta Requires Memberships for Open Gym Use

The requirement begins on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Anyone who wants to use Alpharetta's city gym facilities when they are not in use for scheduled programming will have to obtain a membership starting on Jan. 21.

The membership is free to Alpharetta and Milton residents, but non-residents will have to pay an annual fee.

A big increase in use of the city's gym facilities by non residents has occurred since surrounding jurisdictions have instituted fees for non-resident gym use. There have been times when Alpharetta residents haven't been able to access facilities, especially basketball courts.

Memberships will include the issuance of a photo ID that must be shown when accessing facilities.  Alpharetta residents with a valid membership will be allowed to bring one guest with them free of charge when taking advantage of open gym times.

To obtain an annual membership, residents of Alpharetta and Milton must show proof of residency and a government-issued photo ID.

Non-residents can purchase a membership for an annual fee of $50 for youth age 17 and under or $100 for persons age 18 and older.  A Daily Drop-In fee is also available to Non-Residents who do not want to purchase an annual membership.  These fees are $5 per visit for age 17 and under or $10 per visit for age 18 and older.  A valid government-issued photo ID must be presented when purchasing any of the non-resident memberships.

Memberships, whether resident or non-resident, are non-transferable and may be acquired by visiting the Alpharetta Community Center (175 Roswell Street) or the Wills Park Recreation Center (11915 Wills Road).

A calendar of available open gym times will be posted at the beginning of each month at the centers.
