Alpharetta Rec Commission Rejects Bee Hive Proposal

Board determines Wills Park location is not an appropriate spot.

A proposal to allow a bee hive to be placed near the Alpharetta Community Garden at Wills Park was turned down by the city's Recreation Commission.

The commission's Parks subcommittee decided it wasn't an appropriate location for a bee hive.

The community garden is located in off Wills Road near the equestrian center in a heavily traveled area.

Rec Commission members were open to suggestions for other sites, perhaps closer to the edge of a park.

The community garden is operated by the Alpharetta Arboretum, a non-profit organization. It has helped establish arboretums in three city parks–Cogburn, Wills and Webb Bridge–and this community garden.

According to the Alpharetta Arboretum's Web site, the garden has 37 plots, most of them 10 feet by 4 feet. Three enabling beds have wheelchair access. The season is Feb. 22-Dec. 31, and all beds are reserved. But organizers encourage residents to put their names on a waitling list.

The Alpharetta Community Garden will be the site of a and a Basics of Gardening class on Saturday, April 9 at 9 a.m.
