Alpharetta Installing Sidewalk Along Windward To Fill Gaps East

The five-foot wide sections of sidewalk will provide a connection for pedestrians from North Point Parkway to Windward Plaza.

Want to walk down Windward Parkway from North Point Parkway to Windward Plaza? You can't get there from here now–at least on a sidewalk. But Alpharetta City Council on Monday night approved an $80,000 contract to fill in 2,600 linear feet in sidewalk gaps on the south side of Windward.

Pete Sewczwicz, the city's director of Engineering and Public Works, said PLM Landscaping will be paid $79,989 to install five-foot wide sidewalk additions where there are gaps.

"Basically it's what we call a goat trail on Windward Parkway. People are walking there already. It's a dirt pathway already and we are going to fill in the spots.," Sewczwicz said.

He said PLM Landscaping did the city's tree plantings this year.

"There will be some trees taken down in that area, some cherry trees, but that's just because it's within where the sidewalk is going to go," Sewczwicz said.

He said this will be a future connection to the Big Creek Greenway, which will go down Marconi Drive.

Councilman Chris Owens said the Windward Business Association takes care of the landscaping east of GA 400 on Windward Parkway, which is a good partnership for the city.

The City Council voted 4-0, with Owens, Jim Paine, Cheryl Oakes and Mayor Arthur Letchas voting in favor. Councilmen D.C. Aiken, Mike Kennedy and Doug DeRito were out of town, Letchas said.
