Alpharetta Firm Wins GA 400 Contract from GDOT

Two projects in Forsyth County will cost $5 million.

An Alpharetta firm was awarded a project on GA 400 to extend real-time traffi infomration north on GA 400 from McFarland Parkway to GA 20.

This is one of two road projects slated to begin this fall on Georgia 400 in Forsyth County to the tune of nearly $5 million, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

The latest project will include extending cameras, overhead changeable message signs and a connection to the Navigator System for real time traffic information, from McFarland Parkway (Exit 12) to Highway 20 (Exit 14). Installation of the Georgia Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), as its known, will also include ramp meters at the entrance ramps from Highway 141 (Exit 13) and Highway 20 to GA 400, the agency's press release stated.

The project is expected to cost $1.64 million and will be handled by World Fiber Technologies in Alpharetta. A completion date of July 13, 2013 is targeted.

The other project involves resurfacing a stretch of GA 400 from Highway 306 in the northern part of the county to Highway 53 in Dawson County. This project is expected to cost $3.25 million and was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting, Inc. The GDOT states this project should be completed by Nov. 30, 2012.

The project will begin where the lanes change from four to two lanes at the McFarland Parkway exit. The total length of the extension will be about three miles.
