Alpharetta Could Adopt Budget, Tax Rate

Tonight is the final chance you can weigh in on Alpharetta's proposed fiscal year 2015 budget and millage rate.

The Alpharetta City Council is expected to adopt its fiscal year 2015 budget and millage rate during its meeting tonight, which will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Alpharetta City Hall.

The $86.1 million budget is based upon the city leaving its 5.750 millage rate at its current level. 

Broken down, the funds include:

• General fund: $60 million
• Special revenue funds $8.67 million 
• Debt service fund: $3.58 million
• Capital project fund: $10.26 million
• Solid waste fund: $3.27 million
• Risk management fund: $1.11 million

While the city's total millage rate won't change, Alpharetta will make some changes to the individual components that make up the total rate.

Alpharetta is shifting 0.08 mills from the debt service millage rate to the maintenance and operations millage rate to provide funding for capital investment in its infrastructure. 

Because this shift increases the millage rate dedicated to maintenance and operations, the city is required by law to advertise a millage rate increase even though the total millage rate will not change.
