Alpharetta City Council Plans to Appoint Municipal Judges in the Future

Alpharetta's City Council plans to appoint the municipal judge in the future, and has a first reading of changes to the city's ordinance that now has city voters picking the judge.

The council has a full agenda in its meeting tonight, with adding security cameras under discussion and even a change to the city's alcohol ordinance.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at in council chambers.

The agenda includes:

  • Discussion about possibly installing security cameras in the city in the wake of home invasions;
  • First reading of an ordinance to change picking a municipal judge to appointment by the mayor and City Council instead of by election;
  • First reading of another amendment to an ordinance that requires restaurants serving alcohol to have a 50/50 ratio of food to alcohol sales instead of the more restrictive 60 percent food to 40 percent alcohol sales currently in effect;
  • Selection of a program manager for City Center, with Jones Lang LaSalle's $714,000 bid recommended;
  • Approval of moving forward with the $29 million bond sales voters approved in the Nov. 8 election;
  • Approval of a social media policy for all city employees.
