Alpharetta Cancels Saturday's Children's Festival Due to Weather

The National Weather Service has forecast the possibility of severe thunderstorms in North Fulton, and a 70 percent chance of rain.

If you were planning on taking the kids to the Alpharetta Children's Festival on Saturday, March 26, you'd better make new plans. Forecasts of severe weather has caused the city to cancel the festival.

"While we regret the need to cancel this much loved community event, the safety of our citizens and event patrons must be our primary concern," said Assistant City Adminsitrator James Drinkard in a release today. "The City of Alpharetta apologizes for the resulting inconvenience."

It might be sunny Friday aftenroon, but the National Weather Service has forecast isolated strong thunderstorms are possible Friday night into early Saturday. Large hail and heavy rain are possible, especially over parts of central Georgia overnight close to daybreak on Saturday.

Strong to severe thunderstorms remain possible through Sunday, with flooding from heavy rains a threat through at least Monday.

Tonight...Partly cloudy in the evening...then mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers after midnight. Lows in the mid 40s. Light and variable winds.

Saturday...Showers likely with a chance of thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be severe in the morning. Highs 62 to 70. South winds 10 to 15 mph shifting to the southwest in the afternoon. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Saturday Night...Chance of showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening...then showers likely with a slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the lower 50s. Southeast winds up to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.
