Alpharetta Awarded Bicycle Safety Grant

The city received $14,700 from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, which it will apply towards its Bicycle Safety Campaign.

The Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety recently awarded the city of Alpharetta a grant totaling over $14,000.

The city received $14,700 in Share the Road funds. The program is designed to "promote the development and implementation of innovative programs to address highway safety issues," the city said in a news release. It's the second consecutive year Alpharetta has been given GOHS funds.

The city's Department of Public Safety will use the funding to continue its Bicycle Safety Campaign, which educates "cyclists, drivers, and law enforcement officers alike to ensure that safety is the main focus of all users of the roadway."

The city teamed up with with Bike Alpharetta Inc. to form the program. The initiative holds educational programs along the Big Creek Greenway and doles out educational material and bicycle helmets to youth at various events.
