“The remaining road network simply cannot handle the volume of traffic with Haynes Bridge Road out of play,” said Alpharetta Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard.  “The only way to lessen the impact and aggravation that motorists will experience is to get as many commuters as possible to not travel along the roads in that area during tonight’s peak commute.”

Motorists are advised to expect heavy traffic delays along Haynes Bridge, Old Alabama, and Nesbitt Ferry Roads as well as along any secondary and neighborhood streets that connect to the larger road network in that area. Alpharetta also encourages motorists traveling to places south of Mansell Road to approach that area from Holcomb Bridge Road.

"Gridlock level congestion is being experienced Old Alabama and Nesbitt Ferry Roads as well as along any secondary and neighborhood streets that connect to the larger road network."

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid these areas, as additional traffic will only serve to worsen the situation.

"Crews will then have to erect new power poles and reestablish the traffic signal before the road can be reopened," the city wrote, adding it believes the intersection will return to normal operations in roughly three hours.

All southbound traffic on Haynes Bridge Road is being detoured at Mansell Road and northbound traffic is being forced to turn back at Thornberry Drive.
