Thieves Have an Easy Time Stealing Unlocked Cars in Milton

The following information was supplied by the Milton police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction

Four cars were stolen in Milton in the past week, but thieves probably had an easier time with two of the cars as they were left unlocked.

An Arborwoods Drive woman man reported to that a 2004 Nissan Xterra she had parked and locked on Christmas Eve was missing when she next looked to drive it on Dec. 26.

The owner of the car told Milton police he had just three payments remaining on the car.

On Dec. 24 a Morris Road resident reported his scooter, valued at $1,295, was taken from a parking space in front of his apartment building. He had last seen it the day before.

An Alpharetta resident reported to Milton police that his 1996 Acura Integra was stolen from the Walmart parking lot in Milton on Dec. 23 at 4 p.m.

The car owner might have made things easy on the thief by leaving the car unlocked, which he said he always does. And he wasn't sure if his car keys had fallen out of his jacket pocket inside the car or onto the ground as he got out that afternoon.

A Deer Trail woman had another reason for leaving her 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix unlocked while parked at her home when she reported it stolen on Dec. 23 at 6:52 a.m. She told Milton police that “she never locked her car because remote key fob did not work,” the police report said.

The keys to the car were missing, and she said she couldn't remember if she left them in the car overnight.
