Tax Refund Check Upsets Milton Woman

Milton man loses money after responding to Craigslist ad for Masters tickets.

A Dockbridge Way resident received a $6,400 tax refund check, but she wasn't too happy about it.

The check was made out to a Nicholas Black, who has never lived at that address, from what her neighbors tell her. She told Milton police on April 19 that she fears that her address is being used for identity fraud, especially when she received a forwarding address notice from the U.S. Postal Service addressed to Black stating a change of address form had been submitted for her address.

She contacted both the Postal Service and University Bank of San Diego, on which the live check was drawn.

The victim reported to Milton police on April 23 that he found the tickets advertised on Craigslist and began a series of email discussions with the seller, though they were unable to connect via phone. The seller asked him to send the $800 for the tickets via Western Union, which he did. But the tickets never arrived.

When he managed to reach him, the seller said he messed up the air bill and would refund the victim the entire amount, including the Western Union fee, on April 11 or 12. The refund never arrived.

Cumming Man Slows Van To A Crawl, Only To Get Arrested for DUI

A 44-year-old man learned that you can drive too slowly when he was stopped on April 23 at 12:30 a.m. and eventually arrested for DUI.

Milton Police Officer P. Fregosi spotted a white van driving eastbound on Crabapple Road while he was on stationary patrol. The van slowed down to 10 mph as it passed his patrol car in an area where the posted speed limit is 45 mph.

A half hour later Fregosi spotted a white van enter Lacoma Trace, a site of new construction, raising his suspicions as it was after midnight. So he followed the van onto GA 372, but as the driver entered the intersection, the van came to a stop even though he had the green light. Going northbound on Birmingham Highway, the van was traveling 15 mph under the speed limit, swerving onto the fog line and crossing the center line before turning into a gated driveway.

Seferino Ramos-Hernandez, 44, of Cumming, was arrested and cited for DUI and failure to maintain lane.

Trio of Witnesses Back Up Road Rage Report

A Ball Ground man was arrested in a road rage incident on April 19 when three witnesses backed up the other driver's statements.

Milton Police Officer C.A. Ward reported that the first driver said he was driving westbound on Windward Parkway between Deerfield Parkway and Westfield Drive when a gold Subaru Outback tried to get into his lane, but traffic prevented it. The Subaru followed the first driver into the Home Depot parking lot, and yelled at him, "How about some common courtesy." Then the suspect got out of his car and confronted him, spitting in his face and attacking him. When the victim fought him off, the suspect left the scene–but not before his license plate information was copied.

Two men from Canton and Alpharetta and a Cumming woman who witnessed the altercation agreed with the victim's version of what happened. The suspect confirmed that he followed the other driver into the parking lot and asked for some courtesy, but disputed what happened next, saying the victim spat in his face and he returned the favor and got into a physical altercation.

David E. Ranney, 55, of Ball Ground, was arrested and cited with disorderly conduct in the road rage incident.
