The Sweet Apple Elementary School community is mourning the loss of its principal.

Natalie Richman was found dead in her Alpharetta home Wednesday evening, according to WXIA-TV.

Richman, 47, was on leave for a month before she suddenly passed away, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

The Sweet Apple Elementary School PTO posted a message on its Facebook page in response to the loss.

"Our school mourns the heartbreaking and unexpected passing of our beloved principal, Natalie Richman," the message reads. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her precious family and all those who loved her. Her boundless energy, enthusiasm, creativity, passion and love of our children will forever be remembered."

According to a 2010 press release from the Fulton County School System, Richman served as the principal at Murdock Elementary School in Cobb County before coming to Sweet Apple in 2010.

Before that, she was an assistant principal and teacher in Cobb County, and taught at elementary schools in DeKalb County and the state of New York.
Richman received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a master’s degree in early childhood education at Dowling College.

She received leadership certification from Georgia State University and Brooklyn College and a specialist’s degree in educational leadership from Lincoln Memorial University.
