Suspect Fails to Return Rental Truck

The following information was supplied by the Milton police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Warrants have been taken out for an Alpharetta man who rented a truck on Jan. 31, but did not return it as required on Feb. 7.

The suspect rented the Penske truck at Home Depot. A Penske Truck representative told Milton police the Huntington Place resident signed a rental agreement setting the return date and location as Feb. 7 at the Home Depot. When the truck still had not been returned, a certified letter was sent to the man. As of April 1, a check of Penske's national database showed the truck still hadn't been returned.

Milton police went to the apartment the suspect used in the rental agreement on April 2, but it appeared to be vacant and no arrest was made.

The woman got home at The Preserve apartment complex on Deer Trail at about 7:30 p.m. on April 1. When she headed outside the next morning at 6:45 a.m, the car was gone.

The car has been listed as stolen on state and national crime databases.

Milton Residents' Identities Stolen to File Tax Returns

A Milton woman found out from her mother that someone stole her identity to file federal and Illinois taxes.

The victim told Milton police on April 1 that her mother in California called because she had received a letter from the IRS about her tax return. She called the IRS on March 29 and learned that a man used her name, Social Security number and her mother's California address to file state and federal taxes.

She's since also filed reports with the three credit bureaus and the FTC.

An Autumn Close man had a similar story, telling Milton police that he filed his 2012 taxes on March 31, but his return was rejected.

A call to the IRS revealed that someone using his Social Security number had already filed federal taxes just a few days earlier.

The victim has reported the identity fraud to the FTC and the three credit bureaus.

A third Milton resident said he filed his 2012 federal tax return on March 18. When he checked on the return a week later, the IRS told him his return had already been filed using his Social Security number.

The Deer Trail resident reported the identity fraud to Milton police on April 2.
