Jewelry Store Owner, Employee Capture Robbery Suspect

The Sabri Guven jewelry store on Haynes Bridge Road was the scene of a robbery Tuesday afternoon, but the store owner wasn't willing to let the suspects get away with a diamond ring.

A jewelry store owner got help from an employee and a witness in capturing one of two robbery suspects who pulled a gun during a struggle Tuesday afternoon.

The Alpharetta 911 center received a call at 5:04 p.m. reporting a robbery had taken place at the Sabri Guven Fine Jewelry store at the corner of Haynes Bridge Road  and Old Milton Parkway, said George Gordon, spokesman for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

Alpharetta police arrived to find the store owner and an employee holding a suspect down in the front parking lot of the store, Gordon said.
Two men entered the store at about 5 p.m. and asked to see a diamond ring. Once one of the men had the ring in hand, the men ran out the front door. The owner chased the men and tried to stop one of them. As the two men struggled, a jewelry store employee ran out of the store and helped his boss get control of the suspect.
The suspect pulled out a handgun during the struggle, which one of the men grabbed. With the struggle continuing, a witness from the store ran over and took the handgun away from the fight.

Alpharetta police have one suspect in custody at the North Fulton-Alpharetta Jail annex. A second suspect is still being sought.

No injuries were reported during the robbery.

Charges are pending, Gordon said. But no additional information will be released during the investigation.

Did anyone get hurt? There were a LOT of police cars, ambulance, etc and frantic activity at the time they first got there. I was on the road in the middle of all the emergency vehicles arriving and one police car racing down Haynes Bridge Road towards GA 400. Worried as I live around the corner from the store.

Fortunately no one got hurt. The store owner and an employee even caught one of the suspects before they got out of the parking lot. I've updated the story with information from the Public Safety spokesman.

So sad this type of thing is happening in our town. Congratulations to the witness who had his/her wits about him/her to take possession of the gun and get it out of harm's way.

Agree with the other comments but have to add...stupidity on chasing down a suspect with a gun. No ring is THAT valuable compared to losing one's life. Having said this, glad nobody got hurt and one was caught.

What is with all the crime in our area recently? It seems like Alpharetta is becoming an unsafe place to live.

When this store was built, the ingress/egress was carefully planned so there was one way in and one way out on Old Milton Pkwy. When exiting, one must turn right and a block away is the police station. Why was a police car racing down Haynes Bridge Rd toward GA 400 when there is no access from the parking lot to Haynes Bridge Rd?

Mary it sounded like the other suspect may have fled on foot but not sure.
