Office Store Helps Milton Man Discover Identity Fraud

A Milton man was contacted by Office Max of a pending Internet purchase of a computer that was scheduled to be shipped to a different address than his billing address, a red flag for fraud.

The Oxford Meadow man said he on June 25 that hedid not use his card to buy the $909 computer. While checking into this fraud, he also discovered a second fraudulent purchase already made at a Bed, Bath and Beyond store of $869.

The victim's credit card company credited him for the costs and is investigating the fraud.

He told Milton police that he rarely uses that credit card, but he last used it to make a purchase at the Apple Store. He thought the transaction was suspicious because the clerk manually entered the card's number.

Milton Woman Misses Three Years of Tax Refunds

A Milton woman complained to the IRS and police on June 25 that she hasn't received her 2009 or 2010 tax returns, which the IRS said were mailed in April 2012.

The two checks had been cashed, according to the IRS, but had been sent to a Stone Mountain address and not to her home in North Fulton. The checks had been cashed or deposited at Red River Bank in Alexandria, LA. Though it had already been mailed, a hold was put on her 2011 federal tax return check.

IRS, Milton Man Put a Stop to This Attempted Fraud

A Glen Hampton Drive man had a better story to tell about his tax return. The IRS notified him of an attempt to file a return using his name, but he told the federal tax agency that it wasn't him, so the IRS cancelled the return.

The Milton man told Milton police on June 28 that he already has contacted the three major credit reporting agencies about the fraud attempt.
