Milton Police Arrest Home Invasion Suspect in Savannah

A man asked about work at a home-based business before pulling out gun and invading the home with another suspect, according to a police report.

A man believed to be an illegal alien from Honduras was arrested by City of Milton police on charges that he allegedly was responsible for a Nov. 21 armed home invasion on Hopewell Road, according to a news release posted on the city's website.

The suspect is in Fulton County Jail without bail. Attempts are being made to identify his real name.

Police charged the suspect  for allegedly taking part in a home invasion the day before Thanksgiving in which a family was held at gunpoint. The homeowners run a business out of their home and on Nov. 21 a man came to their door, asking about employment. When they told him they didn't have anything for him, the man said "Thanks for your time." But then he pulled out a firearm, Captain Shawn McCarty said on that day.

While one suspect ransacked the home and another held the victims at gunpoint, one family member managed to escape and ran to a neighbor's home. She called police. The suspects fled on foot when they heard sirens.

Police managed to track the men with a police dog for a while, but they assume someone with a vehicle picked them up.

The men were able to get away with a small amount of money. No one was hurt in the home invasion, McCarty said.

The suspect is charged with:

  • Armed robbery,
  • First degree burglary,
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and
  • False imprisonment.

Milton police continue their search for the other two suspects believed to be involved in the home invasion.
