Milton Parents Charged in Death of Daughter

An autopsy conducted on the child showed the cause of death was homicide by "medical neglect."

Two Milton parents have been charged in the death of their daughter.

The Milton Police Department have charged Shaun Jewell, 35, and Altair Murphy-Hubbard, 30, both with felony murder, the city said in a news release. Jewell also faces a cruelty to children in the first degree charge while Murphy-Hubbard faces cruelty to children in the first and second degrees charges.

Both were arrested in Tuesday, April 1 after a "lengthy" investigation into the death of their one-year-old daughter.

Milton police and fire personnel on Oct. 22, 2013, responded to Jewell and Murphy-Hubbard's home on Twinrose Way after the parents reported their child was having trouble breathing. The girl died later that day.

An autopsy conducted by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide by "medical neglect," the city said.

Milton detectives launched an investigation, and determined the girl's death was "allegedly due to a pattern of neglect and lack of medical care from Jewell and Murphy-Hubbard," the city added.

Both parents remain behind bars at the Fulton County jail without bond.

Additionally, Jewell was previously arrested by Sandy Springs and Milton police in 2012 and 2013 on charges of domestic battery and cruelty to children.
