Milton Motorists Help Firefighters 'Fill the Boot' for MDA

Members of the department will be out at major intersections today adding to the $39,000 already donated this summer.

Gov. Nathan Deal proclaimed August "MDA Firefighter Appreciation Month," and Milton's firefighters will be out there today at major intersections asking motorists to help "Fill the Boot."

Deal made the designation in recognition of the selfless service of fire departments across the state in the fight against muscular dystrophy.

Generous motorists in Milton know all about what their fire department has done for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, as they have given more than $39,000 over four days of "Fill the Boot" drives. The next will be held by "A" Shift Friday, Aug. 12, so keep an eye out at major intersections. They will also hold another day of collections, the last in this year's drive, on Friday, Sept. 2.

In just four years, the City of Milton Fire Department has raised more than $161,000 –not counting this year's totals - for MDA, which uses the money to aid local children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases by providing wheelchairs, leg braces, clinic visits, support groups and a chance for children to attend Camp Walk-N-Roll.

Firefighters from Milton were in attendance for Gov. Deal's proclamation, joining colleagues from Warner Robins, Loganville, Valdosta, Austell and Fulton and Clayton counties.
