Man Sentenced for Incest, Teen Allegedly Kills Mom, Officer Resigns Over Porn

James R. King was sentenced, last week, in Fulton County Superior Court, to 95 years in prison for the rape and incest of his daughter in 2011

According to the Sandy Springs Police Department website, King, who lived on Glenridge Drive, was convicted of incest, rape, aggravated sexual battery, two counts of Sodomy, cruelty to children in the first degree, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The acts were committed between May and July 2011.

A 58-year-old Gainesville woman died Monday afternoon in a head-on collision with a SUV on Highway 53 in northeast Forsyth County, a  press release stated.

Clara Garmon was driving west in a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup around 4:13 p.m. when her vehicle hydroplaned as she was approaching the intersection of Highway 53 and Truman Mountain Road. She lost control of the pickup and crossed into the turning lane striking a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Brent Christopher Ehrler 35, of Redlands, Calif., who was traveling east on Highway 53.

Garmon's pickup spun counter clockwise and came to an uncontrolled stop on the north side of Highway 53. Ehrler was unable to avoid the crash and came to a controlled stop on the south side of the highway, according to Cpl. David Garrison.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, but Garmon’s seat belt broke, ejecting her into the bed of the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the press release stated.

- Northeast Cobb Patch

Damian Cornell Purdue McElrath has been charged with aggravated assault and murder in the death of his mother Diane McElrath.

According to a report, police were called to the mother's home and immediately arrested the 19-year-old man, who had originally called the police claiming that he had stabbed his mother.

"She was likely dead," said the caller to police.

Once inside the home, police found the body of a deceased woman.

According to neighbors, the teenager appeared to be a family member of the victim and had recently been released from jail.

– Athens Patch

Athens Clarke County Police Chief Jack Lumpkin announced Monday that Major Mike Shockley had retired on Friday because of accusations involving pornography.

Lumpkin said Shockley had downloaded sexually explicit materials onto his work computer. The material did not seem to be of a predatory nature, but officials plan to search Shockley's computer thoroughly.
