Man Charged With Eluding Police on Old Milton Parkway

Police arrest a man after pursuing him on Old Milton Parkway. He is charged with several crimes, including attempting to elude police, expired license, expired license plate and reckless driving.

A Johns Creek man was charged with several crimes after police pursued him on Old Milton Parkway on June 13.

Around 9 p.m., an Alpharetta Police officer heard there was a look-out for a black sedan on Old Milton Parkway, traveling east.

A caller was following the suspected impaired driver, and police asked the caller to turn on their emergency flashers so police could locate him. As the officer came off Morris Road to Old Milton Parkway, he saw a truck ahead with its emergency flashers on. He lost sight of the truck but saw a black sedan that was weaving in and out of its lane. He heard another officer say he was behind the suspect vehicle, so the officer pulled off to the side of the road. The car then passed the officer. He pulled out and activated his emergency lights and followed the sedan.

Both stopped at the intersection of Kimball Bridge Road for a red light. When the light changed to green, the suspect car continued and the officer turned on his siren. The car moved to the left lane and continued east, traveling at 45 to 50 miles per hour. The car continued to weave between lanes, according to the officer. It slowed down again and moved into the left lane. The driver then turned left into a Kroger shopping center and drove past the gas pumps. As it continued through the parking lot, a Johns Creek Police car approached. The car then stopped in a marked parking space.

The officer got out and ordered the driver several times to step out of his car. A man wearing a sling on his arm got out of the car. The officer told him to go to the rear of his car and put his hands on the trunk. The man got back into the driver’s seat. The officer again told him to get out of the car, and he complied. The officer told him he was under arrest for attempting to elude police. He responded that he was not attempting to elude police because he pulled over right away when he saw the police lights. The officer said he had been trying to stop the man since Kimball Bridge Road. The man said he saw the police car but didn’t realize the officer was trying to stop him.

Because the man’s arm was in a sling, the officer handcuffed his left arm with one handcuff to the rear part of his belt. He then put him in the patrol car. The man asked why he was being arrested, and the officer told him again. The man became loud and said he pulled over when he saw police. He then asked what would happen to his car and was told it would be towed. The man insisted that police call his wife or take him by his house so he could tell his wife he was going to jail. The officer told him he could do neither.

The man became loud and cursed at the police officer, threatening him and insulting him. He also said his license was not expired. When the officer replied that it was, the man said he had not gotten a reminder in the mail to renew his license.

The man was taken to jail and charged with: Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving, Driving with an Expired Driver’s License, Driving with an Expired License Plate, Failure to Maintain Lane.
