For Some, Holiday Season Marred By Fraud

Fraudulent Charges Discovered in New York

A Milton woman believes that her credit card information was stolen at a local restaurant and used to rack up $650 worth of bills in New York. The woman met with police on Dec. 2 to report the fraudulent charges, two of which was made at a Torres Supermarket.

The victim spoke with the supermarket’s manager who forwarded her copies of the purchase receipts. He also advised that security video was available. A representative from her bank was able to cancer the victims credit card and send her a replacement.

All supporting documentation, including a bank statement printout of the fraudulent charges and copies of receipts for the Torres Supermarket Purchases have been forwarded to Criminal Investigation Department.  The victim was also  provided with a case number.

Old Credit Card Resurfaces With Unauthorized Charges

An officer met with a Milton resident at in reference to credit card fraud. According to the victim, his Bank of North Georgia credit card was used without his permission on eight different occasions between Nov. 23 and Nov. 25.

The victim was not aware that his old card was still activated until the recent purchases, totalling $655.93, were spotted. His bank required a police report before investigating. No other charges were reported at the time of the report.

Fraudulent Charges Made Across Atlanta

After discovering fraudulent charges on her credit card a Milton woman met with police at City Hall to file a report. On Nov. 28, the victim notified police that her Visa Check Card was used several times throughout the Metro Atlanta area without her knowledge.

Even though the victim never lost possession of her debit card, more than $700 was charged at places like Wal Mart, Shoe Carnival and Old Navy. The victim cancelled her card after discovering the purchases but the bank required a police report in order to dispute the charges.

Mystery Shopper Hits Up Clothing Stores

A Milton man met with police at City Hall on Nov. 28 after noticing several charges made at stores such as Marshall’s and Old Navy without his knowledge.

Five separate transactions at a Marshall’s clothing store in Smyrna, GA accounted for over $500 of the fraudulent charges. An additional $421 was charged at an Old Navy in Atlanta.

The victim cancelled the card after learning about the fraudulent transactions but was advised to obtain a police report by his bank to dispute the charges.

Milton Woman’s Credit Card Travels From Coast to Coast

While a Milton woman never lost possession of her debit card it was used for purchases at a Target store in Newark, NJ and a pizza place in California. Her Wells Fargo account was charged a total of $83.11 in unauthorized transactions. A police report was file for documentation purposes.

Unauthorized Account Opened

An officer was called to Deer Trail on Dec. 2 after a victim discovered a fraudulent bank account opened in her name. She received a letter from Chase Bank on Nov. 23 regarding an inquiry into her credit. Apparently, an unknown person attempted to open a line of credit with the bank using the victim's name and social security number.

The victim stated that Chase Bank had opened an investigation into the matter and provided a case number. No other details regarding the fraudulent account were available at the time of this report.
