Early Morning Fire Closes Hopewell Road

Smoke detectors wake residents, allowing them to leave house without injuries.

Smoke detectors woke residents of a Hopewell Road home in Milton at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, allowing them to escape their home without injuries.

Fire Marshal Matt Marietta said the fire took place at 14495 Hopewell Road, south of the Hopewell/Cogburn/Francis intersection. As late as 9:22 a.m., crews were still on scene hitting hot spots and trying to save as much of the house as possible.

Milton's Communications Manager, Jason Wright, said the home was the Seven Gables farmhouse, the white house with the red tin roof at the corner of Hopewell and Cogburn. The family did escape the home; however, several pets did not.
