Domestic Dispute Results in Home Invasion and Attack

The following information was supplied by the Milton police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A suspect's father-in-law was hospitalized with numerous injuries, including a broken hip, after a domestic dispute flared up into a fight, with a pistol found a few feet away from the scene.

officers said in an incident report that on Nov. 5 at approximately 10:20 p.m., they responded to a domestic dispute at a house in Milton. Officers had been called to the same house earlier that day in response to harassing communications.

Police were called to the scene and were told by a dispatcher that the suspect was in a vehicle across the street from the house, sending threatening text messages to his wife. She was staying there at her parents' home with their children.

Due to the suspect's earlier behavior, he was believed to be in possession of a firearm.

While police were en route to the home, they were told by dispatch that the suspect had left the vehicle and was ringing the doorbell. At the time, the suspect's wife and children hid upstairs, while her parents remained downstairs.

The suspect kicked in the door, causing damage to both the door and its frame. He then attacked his father-in-law with his fists. The suspect's father and police arrived to see the two men struggling on the floor.

The suspect was handcuffed and removed from the home and evaluated for a bump on the head. His father was taken to North Fulton Hospital for further evaluation and treatment as was the father-in-law, who was treated for numerous contusions and will have to undergo surgery to treat a broken hip.

The children remained upstairs, hidden in an attic crawl space, throughout the event. The wife complained of previous abuse of the suspect and was provided with literature and instructions on how to obtain a temporary order of protection.

While checking outside the residence, an officer found a 9mm Glock 17 pistol approximately three feet from the front door.

The suspect was questioned at the hospital and transported to jail after being cleared by hospital staff. Electronic warrants were obtained for aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, cruelty to children, simple battery and harassing phone calls.
