Delay in Reporting Crime Subjects Woman to Possible Identity Fraud

The following information was supplied by the Milton police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Milton woman reported the theft of a U.S. passport, birth certificates for her two children and paperwork containing her Social Security number two weeks after the fact because she said another police officer told her not to report the theft because the items were worth very little.

The Milton police officer who responded to the theft from an auto, on the other hand, advised the victim to contact all of her banks, the credit bureaus and the Social Security Administration to tell them of the theft and possible fraud.

The crime occurred sometime around May 20. The victim made the report on June 1.

Both men said they had nothing illegal in their possession, but a police dog alerted the vehicle for drugs. An officer assisting in the search of the car fond a brown wooden box with suspect marijuana inside the passenger's duffel bag.

The man was taken to the Alpharetta jail, and after he was taken inside the officer found additional suspected marijuana under his patrol car's rear passenger seat where the suspect had been sitting.

The driver was issued a citation for failing to wear his seat belt and allowed to leave. According to the incident report, Matthew Thomas Altenburg, 23, of Rolling Links Drive, Alpharetta, was arrested for having drug-related objects, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and failure to wear a seat belt.

Milton Juvenile Drives 33 mph Over the Speed Limit

A Milton teen was stopped by a city police officer after a radar check showed he was driving 83 mph in a 45 mph zone on Fremanville Road on May 29.

The teen told the officer he didn't have his license or insurance with him. According to the officer's report, the teen said he wouldn't do it again and to "please let him go on a warning due to family problems." The officer called the teen's father and then cited the juvenile for reckless driving, speeding and no license on person. The teen and vehicle were released to the father.
