Copper Stolen in Alpharetta from A/C Units Worth $20,000

Theft from seven air conditioning units appears to have taken place as snow began to fall.

Seven air conditioning units valued at $20,000 were ruined when someone took them apart to steal copper coils overnight on Feb. 9.

The property manager at Cambridge Square in Alpharetta reported that A/C units at two buildings were taken apart and the copper coils were stolen. The power disconnect was pulled from each unit to kill elecrical power to them. Supply lines to the units were cut near the buidling wall and each unit was taken apart, with the sides and tops laid next to the building.

Alpharetta Police Officer L. Brannon reported that with approximately a half inch of snow showing on several of the units, the crime appeared to have taken place as the snow started or shortly therafter.

Wireless Salesman Jailed After Claiming Clients Stole $34K in Phones

A salesman who reported the theft of 85 phones from a sale he made was arrested when Alpharetta Police discovered he was wanted on active warrants through Cobb County and the Fulton County Marshall's Office.

Mark Raphael Rice, 36, of Atlanta, was arrested on Feb. 11 after first calling police to a local electronics store on Windward Parkway to report the theft of phones.

He said two men told him on the phone that their company wanted a business account for 85 phones with Internet and phone services, and he delivered them in person. He told police that after the first billing cycle one of the men called the Verizon Wireless fraud department to report they had not ordered any phones.

The wireless company cancelled service on the phones, but the estimated $34,000 worth of phones have not been returned.

Rice is being held in Fulton County Jail on the Cobb County warrant and charted of deposit account fraud, theft by conversion and theft by deception.

 Cumming Woman Cited for DUI

Alpharetta Police responding to reports of a possible drunk driver on Northwinds Parkway arrested a Cumming woman on Feb. 8 at 6:08 p.m., and cited her for DUI.

Officer D. Lambert's report said Kimberly Dawn Hughes, 38, of Cumming, was cited for DUI.

Milton Man's Driving Leads to DUI Arrest

An Alpharetta Police officer driving norhtbound on GA 400 north of Old Milton Parkway at 12:57 a.m. on Feb. 11 spotted a driver who started changed lanes, but ended up with his vehicle straddling the two lanes. When the vehicle pulled off at Windward Parkway, no turn signal was used.

Officer M. Stewart's report said he turned on his blue lights, but the motorist didn't pull over until he also activiated his siren.

William Hunt Kelly, 41, of Milton, was arrested and cited for DUI, failure to maintain lane and improper lane change.
