Collection Agency Wants Money from Fraud Victim

The following information was supplied by the Milton police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Brookshade Parkway resident got a call telling him he was $1,500 behind in payments to the Dish Network, but he has never had an account with the satellite TV provider.

The victim told Milton police he was contacted by a collection agency and didn't know why he was contacted. He contacted Life Lock, which told him someone had used his personal information to open the account.

A Birmingham Highway resident discovered more than $700 in fraudulent payments were made with her debit card between June 23 and June 27.

The victim said this has happened numerous times before, but it was the first time she reported it.

Milton police told her to notify her banks, credit union and the Federal Trade Commission.
