Case Closed: Police End Investigation into Fetus Found in Freezer

Alpharetta has completed its investigation into a fetus discovered in a freezer in an Alpharetta townhome this summer.

"Based upon the findings of the investigation, no charges will be filed against anyone involved in this case," said George Gordon, spokesperson for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

In his news release, Gordon said that after an exhaustive investigation, police determined the mother had a miscarriage in the second trimester of the pregnancy. A lack of money caused her next action.

"The mother placed the non-viable fetus in the freezer because she did not have the financial means for a proper disposal or burial," he said.

The police investigation as well as the findings of the Fulton County medical examiner’s office support this conclusion, Gordon said.

Alpharetta detectives were called to a Webb Bridge Road townhome complex Aug. 3.

A cleaning crew arrived at the empty Wedgewood unit and discovered the fully developed fetus inside a shoebox in the unit's freezer, Gordon said at the time. They reported it to Alpharetta police.
