The two Alpharetta residents were flown by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital after the car they were in left the roadway near Big Creek.

UPDATED 8:44 a.m. with victims' names.

Two victims involved in an early morning single-vehicle accident that closed Webb Bridge Road at Big Creek near North Point Parkway have been identified.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Akshay Panducherry, age 18, of Alpharetta. The passenger was identified as Harshavardhan Patlolla, age 21, also of Alpharetta.

A red Ferrari was traveling eastbound on Webb Bridge Road at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, narrowly missing the bridge at Big Creek, said Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesman George Gordon.

The Ferarri "missed the bridge abutment by just a few yards when they started to exit the roadway," he said.

Two victims crawled from the car after the crash. Two Life Flight helicopters were dispatched, landing near Alpharetta High School. The two victims, who suffered significant burns, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, Gordon said.

"According to the preliminary investigation, speed was a contributing factor to this vehicle crash," he said.

The incident occurred at 3:48 a.m., with Alpharetta police still on the scene as rush hour was set to begin. The vehicle was removed just after 6 a.m.

Gordon said the crash was first reported as a brush fire, but when officers arrived on the scene they discovered it was a car crash, not a brush fire.
