Atlanta Man Busted on Drug Possession Charge in Alpharetta

The following arrest information was supplied by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety. It does not indicate a conviction.

An Atlanta man's failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign not only meant a speeding ticket, but also drug possession charges.
An Apharetta police officer saw a silver sedan fail to stop at the intersection of Pine Grove Drive and North Main Street at 11:52 p.m. on Dec. 16, so he pulled the vehicle over in a parking lot at 28 South Main Street.
While speaking to the driver to explain why he was stopped, the officer smelled a strong odor of unburnt marijuana. After getting the man out of the car, he called for backup from a K-9 unit.Β
The K-9 alerted to the vehicle for drugs, so officers started a search. Two plastic containers with individually wrapped small bags of marijuana were found in the glove box. Another plastic container was found in the back seat containing marijuana. And in the trunk a backpack was discovered with approximately 200 small plastic bags and a scale.
The approximately 29 grams of marijuana was separated into 17 plastic bags, and all of the evidence was logged and secured at Alpharetta Department of Public Safety facilities.
Freddie Edward Wright III, 41, of Cosmopolitan Dr., Atlanta, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and for running the stop sign. He was released on $5,20 bond.Β HIs 2006 Honda Accord was impounded. The suspect works in Milton.
