Alpharetta Public Safety, Rotary Sponsor 9/11 Ceremony on Sunday

Local, county and state elected officials from Alpharetta and Milton will participate in public memorial on tenth anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks.

UPDATED 5:15 P.M.: Local residents and public officials will gather at the corner of Old Milton and Westside parkways on Sunday, Sept. 11, for the "We Remember" memorial service on the tenth anniversary of terrorist attacks.

The ceremony starts at 1:30 p.m. at the City of Alpharetta Memorial Park in front of the , 2565 Old Milton Pkwy.

The public is invited to attend the event to honor the victims who were injured or lost their lives during those attacks and to honor today’s first responders.

β€œWe encourage the residents of Alpharetta and Milton to attend this ceremony as we collectively come together as a community to honor the memory of the victims and the bravery of our first responders on that fateful day,” said Gary George, director of the Alpharetta Public Safety Department.

The memorial ceremony will include a replay of selected 911 calls received during the attacks, a large aerial flag display, the presentation of colors, speeches from elected officials, public safety personnel and the placing of a memorial wreath by the combined honor guards from the Alpharetta and Milton public safety departments.

The ceremony will close with the playing of Taps by dueling trumpeters, and the release of doves courtesy of Georgia Doves.

George Gordon, public information officer for the Alpharetta Public Safety Department, said most visitor parking will be on the unopened, paved section of Westside Parkway on the north side of Old Milton Parkway.

Handicap and dignitary parking will be provided along the front rows of parking spaces in the main public safety parking lot on the south side of the Alpharetta public safety building.

Volunteers from the Alpharetta Rotary Club and Alpharetta Public Safety CAPS officers will assist with parking and handing out brochures.
