Alpharetta Police Blotter: July 17-21

Car Traveling With No Lights Results In DUI

On July 17, an Alpharetta police officer noticed a vehicle driving westbound through a parking lot located at 2200 Encore Parkway without any lights on.

When stopped the driver appeared intoxicated and refused to complete field sobriety evaluations. The driver also refused a breath sample.

The driver was place under arrest and charged with DUI.

Driver Receives Several Citations

An officer spotted a vehicle leaving Wild Wing Cafe on Windward Parkway and enter GA 400 on July 17. After noticing the vehicle drift out of its lane several times, the officer ran the tag and discovered a suspended registration.

Once the vehicle was stopped, the officer smelled alcohol coming from the car. The driver was charged with DUI less safe alcohol, driving with suspended registration, failure to maintain lane, improper left turn and failure to change address on license.

Traffic Stop Results in Drug Possession Charge

On July 17, an officer noticed a vehicle apparently speeding eastbound on Windward Parkway. The car also drifted to the right several times.

Despite the officer turning on his blue lights, the vehicle continued east past suitable spots to stop. The vehicle finally turned left into a parking lot, rolled through a stop sign, drove on the wrong side of the road and stopped facing oncoming traffic, according to the officer's report.

The officers suspicions led to a DUI arrest. During a search, what was believed to be marijuana was found in the front pocket of the driver. A K-9 search also yielded a positive indication of illegal substance.

The driver was arrested and charged with DUI drugs less safe and possession of marijuana less than an ounce.

Suspicious Driving Disrupts Officer’s Prisoner Transport

On July 17 an Alpharetta officer who was transporting a prisoner noticed a vehicle stopped in the right lane of GA 9 for no apparent reason. Upon closer inspection the officer noticed the vehicle was moving slower than other traffic.

The officer called for another unit then noticed the vehicle drifting and initiated a traffic stop. Another officer arrived to handle the stop.

The new officer noticed the odor of alcohol and the driver stumbling once exiting the vehicle. The driver was taken to the Alpharetta jail and charged with DUI less safe-alcohol and failure to maintain lane.

DUI Arrest After Unsatisfactory Sobriety Test

An officer noticed a vehicle on Old Milton Parkway that was failing to maintaining its lane on July 18.

After a traffic stop the officer noticed the smell of alcohol and that the driver had watery eyes. After failing a field sobriety test and producing a positive breath sample the driver was arrested and charged with DUI less safe-alcohol and failure to maintain lane.

Suspect Concerned About Food After Marijuana Arrest

On July 18, an officer spotted a vehicle driving over the line on his right side.

After a traffic stop the driver admitting having just had a few beers. He stumbled during a field sobriety test, but passed a breath analysis test. That made the officer suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs. The passenger admitted both occupants of the car had just smoked marijuana.

The driver was then placed under arrest for DUI-marijuana and failure to maintain lane. During transport he driver was concerned about getting something to eat, reminding the officer of the side effects of marijuana use.

Lane Switch With No Signal Leads to Possession Charge

On July 20, an officer noticed a vehicle change lanes without using a signal. The car was also traveling 75 mph in a 65 mph zone.

After stopping the car, the officer noticed the faint smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and the passenger admitted having a small bag containing marijuana in the back seat.

The driver was arrested and brought to the Fulton County Jail.

Car Full of Minors Caught With Alcohol

On July 21 an Alpharetta officer pulled over a vehicle on Haynes Bridge Road after discovering its tag had expired.

Four young adults were in the car, which smelled of alcohol. When asked to exit the vehicle, one of the passengers was caught trying to hide something beneath a shirt. During a search the officer discovered a false ID on the person. After refusing a breath analysis the person was placed under arrest. The other three minors were released to their parents.
